Job Description
The Tool Crib Attendant independently manages the tool management program, tool room, calibrated equipment, and associated test equipment in a fast-paced aviation environment. This role ensures that all tools, parts, and equipment are properly issued, tracked, calibrated, maintained, and documented in accordance with manufacturer manuals, company programs, policies and procedures, FAA documents, and applicable regulatory standards. The position supports aviation maintenance operations by maintaining a highly organized, compliant, and efficient tool and materials logistics function.
Responsibilities
- Independently manage the tool room and tool management program, including calibrated equipment and associated test equipment to support aviation maintenance operations.
- Perform daily inventory of tool room assets and conduct daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections on tools, toolboxes, and equipment for condition, serviceability, proper markings and etchings, and correct shadowing to easily identify lost tools.
- Issue parts, tools, and equipment from inventory in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring proper documentation and accountability.
- Create, maintain, and improve a tool control program to ensure full accountability and traceability of all tools and equipment.
- Maintain and track all tools and equipment, including calibration and inspection dates and locations, using maintenance databases and/or Fixed Asset System (FAS) software.
- Report all missing tools promptly to the supervisor and support any required investigations or corrective actions.
- Identify tools and equipment requiring repair or replacement; perform minor adjustments, lubrication, and basic repairs to keep tools and equipment functional and ready for use.
- Replace broken tools as needed and ensure that replacement items meet required specifications and standards.
- Maintain accurate records of tool inventories, broken tool logs, and equipment status, including calibrated tool historical records, and ensure these records are complete and available for FAA inspectors.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, work orders, maintenance manuals, and technical publications to perform required maintenance, service checks, and verification of serviceability.
- Receive, inspect, and verify the quality and quantity of ordered supplies, materials, and equipment upon arrival.
- Detect faulty operations or defective materials and promptly report issues and any unusual situations to the department supervisor.
- Advise department management of any issues, delays, or schedule interruptions that may impact operations or logistics.
- Ensure the work area, including the tool room and hangar spaces as required, remains clean, safe, and orderly at all times.
- Adhere to company policies, safety manuals (including hazardous materials program), Repair Station Manuals (RSM), and all applicable regulatory and procedural requirements.
- Stay informed of advances in tool control technology and apply appropriate technologies to improve logistics and tool management processes.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks, and participating in professional development activities.
- Perform all job duties of a Logistical Technician I, as applicable, in addition to tool crib responsibilities.
- Protect company proprietary information and maintain strict confidentiality regarding all work performed.
- Adapt to changing organizational and operational needs by performing other related duties as required to support the company mission.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience in tool, material, or logistics management, preferably in an aviation environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least five (5) years of relevant and progressively responsible hands-on work experience in aviation logistics or equivalent U.S. military training and logistics certifications.
- Familiarity with aviation tools, calibrated equipment, and regulatory standards such as AS9110 and DCMA requirements.
- Proficiency with inventory management software (for example, SAP), database software, inventory software, and order processing systems.
- Computer literacy with at least an intermediate understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with 5+ years of experience using these applications.
- Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements related to aircraft parts, company procedures, General Operations Manuals (GOM), Repair Station Manuals (RSM), manufacturers’ manuals, blueprints, Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA), and Minimum Equipment Lists (MEL).
- Knowledge of International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and applicable export rules and regulations.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in inventory control, tool tracking, and parts ordering.
- Ability to function effectively in a demanding, fast-paced, and constantly changing work environment.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and protect proprietary company information.
- Ability to adhere to corporate policies, standards, procedures, company goals and priorities, and core values.
- Capability to successfully complete all required training for the job level and meet technical knowledge and proficiency standards within two (2) years.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in aviation logistics, including aviation parts, materials management, and parts inventory control.
- Tooling experience and prior work in a tool room or tool crib environment.
- Experience with aviation platforms such as C-130 aircraft is beneficial.
- Knowledge of various tool control programs and their practical applications in an aviation maintenance environment.
- Experience working under FAA oversight and familiarity with FAA inspections and documentation expectations.
- Ability to stay current with advances in tool control technologies and logistics best practices.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills to effectively coordinate with maintenance and management teams.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs and to perform duties outside the core job description when required.

Work Environment
This role is based in a hangar environment in Crestview, supporting aviation maintenance and logistics operations. The facility is described as extremely clean, organized, and well maintained, with tools and equipment that appear nearly new and are carefully managed. Work is performed in and around the tool room and hangar areas, requiring consistent attention to safety, orderliness, and compliance with company safety manuals, hazardous materials programs, and Repair Station Manuals. You will regularly use inventory management systems such as SAP, Fixed Asset System (FAS) software, and other database and order processing tools, along with standard Microsoft Office applications. The environment is demanding and fast-paced, with changing operational needs, and requires flexibility, professionalism, and a strong focus on detail and accuracy.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Crestview, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.50 - $22.58/hr.
