Job Description

The Quality Inspector assures the quality of all assigned products by performing detailed mechanical and electrical inspections and supporting continuous improvement of quality processes. This role evaluates and recommends best practices to enhance product and process quality while ensuring safety and strict adherence to ISO 9001, AS9100, and other applicable standards throughout all operations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed mechanical and electrical inspections of electronic equipment, circuit cards, avionics, and mechanical parts to verify conformance to specifications and standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to production teams on performing mechanical and electrical inspections and proper use of inspection tools.
  • Construct, maintain, and organize electronic files for quality data to support a paperless manufacturing environment.
  • Conduct process audits to verify compliance with internal procedures, ISO 9001, AS9100, and other applicable quality standards.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues affecting the calibration of hand tools and measuring devices such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Review and verify packaging, preservation, and shipping processes to ensure compliance with contractual and customer requirements.
  • Assist in performing process and procedure analysis to identify opportunities for quality and efficiency improvements.
  • Monitor, support, and provide feedback to promote and strengthen the self-inspection program within production areas.
  • Perform documentation duties using a computer, including data entry, record maintenance, and preparation of inspection reports.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, work instructions, schematics, and wire diagrams to validate product and process compliance.
  • Support final inspection activities to ensure that completed products meet all quality, regulatory, and customer requirements.
  • Apply quality control and quality assurance principles in an electronics manufacturing environment, including PCB and electronics assembly.
  • Use CMM and visual inspection techniques, as well as hand tools, to verify dimensions and quality characteristics.
  • Maintain compliance with aerospace and defense quality requirements, including relevant military and industry standards.
  • Remain at the assigned worksite during assigned hours, except for approved time off, to support production and inspection schedules.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience as an inspector of electronic equipment and/or mechanical parts.
  • Hands-on experience with PCB and electronics assembly, circuit cards, avionics, and electronics manufacturing quality.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, work instructions, schematics, and wire diagrams.
  • Experience performing mechanical inspection and electrical inspections using hand tools and measuring devices.
  • Practical knowledge of quality inspection, quality control, and quality assurance practices in a production environment.
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001, AS9100, and/or other quality standard environment.
  • Familiarity with calibration concepts and systems related to hand tools and measuring devices such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Ability to perform visual inspections, including final inspection, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with computers to perform documentation duties and maintain electronic quality records.
  • Capability to work effectively in a production environment and follow established work instructions and procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a military or defense quality environment.
  • Ability to understand MIL-STD and ANSI Z540-1 calibration systems.
  • Familiarity with ANSI/J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, and IPC-A-620 production environments.
  • Knowledge of IPC 610, IPC 620, and related standards for electronics manufacturing and soldering quality.
  • Strong understanding of quality auditing principles and process audits.
  • Comfort working with soldering-related standards and electronics manufacturing quality requirements.
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues in packaging, preservation, and shipping processes to meet contractual requirements.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production environment on a first-shift 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. The position involves both standing and sitting for extended periods, frequent use of small hand tools, and repetitive motions such as keyboarding. You will regularly handle and inspect components using tools such as calipers, micrometers, and other measuring devices, as well as perform visual inspections that require 20/20 vision and color vision with or without corrective lenses. The role may require lifting up to 30 pounds. Work is performed in a paperless manufacturing setting, using computers and electronic systems to manage quality data and documentation.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
