Job Description

The Structures Technician assembles and integrates spacecraft structural components, subassemblies, and mechanical systems in a clean room environment. This role focuses on precision assembly of metallic and composite structures, installation of aerospace fasteners, and close collaboration with engineering and quality teams to ensure every spacecraft structure meets exacting aerospace standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble spacecraft structural components, subassemblies, and mechanical systems in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and specifications.
  • Install fasteners such as rivets, bolts, nut plates, and specialty aerospace hardware using correct torque values and approved installation procedures.
  • Perform drilling, reaming, countersinking, deburring, and precision fitting of structural components to meet design requirements.
  • Assemble and bond composite and metallic structures used in satellite frames, panels, and deployable systems.
  • Carry out precision alignment and fit-up of structural assemblies to achieve required engineering tolerances.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to resolve build issues, troubleshoot assembly challenges, and improve assembly processes.
  • Maintain strict compliance with quality standards, documentation requirements, and configuration control procedures.
  • Inspect completed work for dimensional accuracy, structural integrity, and workmanship prior to formal quality verification.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for structural assembly and sheet metal repair tasks.
  • Maintain tools, fixtures, and workstations in accordance with safety guidelines and 5S organizational practices.
  • Support spacecraft integration activities, including structural modifications and repairs, as production needs arise.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in aerospace structures assembly, aircraft structures, or precision mechanical assembly.
  • Proven experience installing aerospace fasteners, rivets, and structural hardware.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and assembly instructions.
  • Hands-on experience working with aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and composite materials.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and torque tools.
  • Skilled in structural assembly, including drilling, reaming, countersinking, deburring, and precision fitting.
  • Ability to perform sheet metal assembly and repair using appropriate hand tools and power tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting tight engineering tolerances and quality standards.
  • High school diploma or GED.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate degree or certificate in a technical discipline.
  • Experience assembling composite and metallic structures for satellite frames, panels, or deployable systems.
  • Familiarity with configuration control and documentation practices in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Comfort working from detailed blueprints and work instructions in a clean room setting.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with manufacturing engineers and quality personnel.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.

Work Environment

This role is based in a clean room environment dedicated to spacecraft and satellite structural assembly. You will work with aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and composite materials using a range of hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and torque tools. The position requires adherence to strict cleanliness and contamination-control standards, including wearing smocks, hair nets, beard nets (as applicable), and shoe covers while on the production floor. The workspace follows safety and 5S practices, with organized tools, fixtures, and workstations to support efficient and high-quality assembly operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Midland, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $42.00/hr.
